The Wait

Life is a full process of waiting. Right now I am waiting to plant starts for our garden. I am waiting for our bathroom downstairs to be finished. I am waiting for this rainy winter to stop and the sun to come out again. I am waiting to hear where God is taking our family’s life, are we staying put and growing where we are or are we going to be planted somewhere else to grow new fruit? This waiting period has seemed awfully long, but any waiting is too long right?

Isaiah 40:31

Yet those who wait for the Lord

Will gain new strength;

They will mount up with wings like eagles,

They will run and not get tired,

They will walk and not become weary.

This is definitely a time of waiting in my life. Many of my mentors have told me.

God has made it clear.

What is the truth about waiting on the Lord?

God will give me strength.

God will give me endurance.

Hebrews 12:1-3

Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Who are the “Great cloud of witnesses?”

Hebrews 11 describes them as people who had faith in God’s promises, endured suffering, lived as strangers and aliens, looked forward and longed for the city “which has foundations whose architect is God” (vs. 10), and “desired a better country, a heavenly one” (vs 16).

Application
  • I need to believe God will give me strength and endurance in the waiting.
  • I need to live in the light of eternity living as a stranger & alien looking toward “the city to come.”
  • I need to not allow life’s circumstances and sin to “entangle me.”
  • I need to be content in my circumstances and follow the Lord’s leading in each moment.
  • I need to remember Jesus suffered on this earth and He is my ultimate example.
Last Thought

Galatians 6:9-10

Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.

Prayer Point

What are you waiting for?

What do you need endurance in?
